Successes burden Campanologist in big Arc trial
Group One winner Campanologist heads the runners in the Dubai Duty Free Arc Trial at Newbury in England today. However, the Godolphin five-year-old faces a tough task as he has to carry a 7lb (3.17kg) penalty for his two wins at the highest level in Germany this summer. Saeed bin Suroor, his trainer, said: "I have been very pleased with Campanologist this year and he came out his latest win in very good order.
"He ran well to finish third in this race last year and has won two Group One races already this season, so I am optimistic that he can post another big performance." Campanologist faces competition from Monitor Closely, Bauer, the 2008 Group One Emirates Melbourne Cup runner-up, and Rainbow Peak, a Listed handicap scorer who was second to Godolphin's Rio De La Plata in a York Group Three on his latest start.
Monitor Closely was third in the Ladbrokes St Leger last year and is reported razor sharp by Michael Bell, his handler, having had two runs since returning from a lengthy lay-off. "I think he's absolutely cherry-ripe now. Provided the ground is decent I expect him to run to the best of his ability," Bell said. * Agencies
