Start of UAE football season put back a day

The professional league has altered its schedule by one day to give the national team players an extra day of rest coming off playing in their World Cup qualifier.

The professional league has altered its schedule by one day and the season will now start on October 15, the Football Association said yesterday.

The change was made to give national team players an extra day of rest after a World Cup qualifier.

The 2014 World Cup Asia Zone qualifiers begin on September 2 with the UAE playing Kuwait in Group B. Their next match is against Lebanon on September 6, followed by South Korea away on October 11.

In other news, the stadium bans imposed on Al Ahli and Al Ain last season for unruly behaviour of fans will be implemented at the start of the new season on their Etisalat Cup matches.
