Soldo gets backing at Cologne

Cologne have backed troubled coach Zvonimir Soldo despite the team's poor start.

Cologne have backed troubled coach Zvonimir Soldo despite the team's poor start.

They are anchored in 17th spot, one off the bottom, with five points from eight games.

"We have to get out of a difficult situation and we can only do that together," said the board members in a statement.

"There are positive signs that give us hope despite the current situation. What is important now is to remain united."

Meanwhile, the Hannover 96 central defender Emanuel Pogatetz will miss their game against Cologne today after he aggravated a muscle injury in training on Wednesday.

Steve McClaren, the Wolfsburg coach, has no qualms about playing Marwin Hitz in goal for today's clash with Nurnberg. Regular No 1 Diego Benaglio had to be replaced during the Wolves' 3-2 defeat to Bayer Leverkusen last weekend and has been unable to train, so Hitz is in line for his first start tomorrow.
