Sheikh Hazza heads the field

Sheikh Hazza bin Sultan Al Nahyan and his younger brother and last year's winner Sheikh Khaled head the entries for the Sheikh Sultan bin Zayed Cup.

ABU DHABI // Sheikh Hazza bin Sultan Al Nahyan and his younger brother and last year's winner Sheikh Khaled head the entries for the Sheikh Sultan bin Zayed Cup, a 240-kilometre Three Star race at the Bouthdib Endurance Village from today. The event to be worked off in three legs of 80km each day has drawn over 100 entries including the reigning world champion and the runner up Maria Alvarez Ponton of Spain and Argentine Agustin Vita.

Ponton will be onboard the 11-year-old Arabian gelding Kidur De Blaziet from the Emirates Stables in Dubai and trained by her husband Jaume Punti Dachs, and Vita rides Ramalea Captain owned by the Deputy Prime Minister Sheikh Sultan bin Zayed. Ali Mohammed al Muhairi, along with the Baloushi brothers, who have won five of seven events, are among the leading contenders. apassela@thenational.ae
