Olli Jokinen scored two goals while Peter Mueller added a power play score as the Phoenix Coyotes ended the San Jose Sharks' seven-game winning streak with a 4-2 triumph. Viktor Tikhonov notched his first career goal and Jokinen followed with his first of the game 27 seconds later midway through the first period. Jokinen also added an empty-net goal with the man advantage with 18 seconds remaining in the third period to seal the win.
Marty Reasoner claimed two goals as the Atlanta Thrashers scored four times in the second period to cruise to a 5-2 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes. Patrick Kane and Martin Havlat recorded a goal and two assists apiece as the Chicago Blackhawks posted their fourth consecutive success with a 6-1 win over the Calgary Flames. Jonathan Toews netted his first goal of the campaign and set up another for Chicago.
Jeff Drouin-Deslauriers made 37 saves as the Edmonton Oilers edged out the injury-plagued New Jersey Devils 2-1. Former Devils defenceman Sheldon Souray netted his fifth goal of the season and Ales Hemsky scored with the man advantage in the second period. David Booth grabbed a hat-trick and Craig Anderson had 44 saves as the Florida Panthers halted a six-game slide with a 3-1 triumph over Anaheim.
