Caster Semenya's coach says the 800m world champion will make her comeback at a European meeting, but will not compete at the world junior championships in Canada. Michael Seme said yesterday that Semenya is looking to run in "one or two" meets in Europe before completing at the African championships in Kenya, which begin July 28. Semenya was cleared to return on Tuesday by the IAAF, ending an 11-month lay-off after undergoing gender verification tests.
"Caster is happy that she will be back in action but we must make sure she is training properly," said Seme. Seme said Semenya ran two 600m trials in Pretoria yesterday but her times were "not good enough for an 800m runner" and therefore she "was not prepared" for the world juniors. Triple Olympic champion Usain Bolt's remaining 200m season may be in jeopardy because of a strained Achilles tendon, the Jamaican said yesterday.
"I have no idea, but I am praying on it," Bolt told a news conference when asked if he would run another 200m this season. "The doctor said in four weeks I should be OK." Bolt switched to 100m from 200 for today's Diamond League meeting in Lausanne to avoid further injury. * Agencies
