Former captain was supposed to play in the Twenty20 competition but runs into visa problems.
Saqib Ali denied big ticket to Bangladesh Premier League
Saqib Ali’s participation in the Bangladesh Premier League has been hit by a visa snag.
The UAE batsman received a contract from Mohammedan Sporting Club to play three matches over two weeks, but the club said yesterday that his visa application encountered some complications.
“The problem is because the Bangladesh Cricket Board has an issue with the Pakistan Cricket Board and since I hold a Pakistan passport, my visa application has been turned down,” Saqib said.
“The first game I was to play was on Wednesday and the next on Sunday, so there was very little time, even if they had pursued this matter.
They have apologised to me over the confusion and have told me they would consider me again in the future. I am, of course, very disappointed that I missed this opportunity. I was prepared to travel and was excitedly looking forward to playing in this competition.”
