Rodriguez surgery proves to be successful
Alex Rodriguez has had successful hip surgery and should return to action in six to nine weeks, the New York Yankees said. Rodriguez, baseball's highest-paid player in the second year of a 10-year, $275million (Dh1bn) deal, had arthroscopic surgery to repair a torn labrum in his right hip. "Alex is doing very well," hip specialist Dr Marc Philippon said. "The surgery went exactly as planned. There is no doubt in our minds this was the best option for Alex and for the Yankees."
Rodriguez had complained of some tightness in his hip since last season. An MRI scan taken last weekend found that he has a cyst and it was sent to the Colorado specialist for further examination. Dr Philippon said Rodriguez would need further surgery in November, but would be ready for spring training in 2010. * Reuters
