DHAKA // The Bangladesh spinner Abdur Razzak has been banned from bowling due to an illegal action, a Bangladesh Cricket Board official said today. The ban will be effective until he corrects his action, the official said. Razzak was assessed by Marc Portusa, a member of the International Cricket Council (ICC) panel of human movement specialists at the Australian Institute of Sports (AIS) on Nov 17 and missed the recent Test series in South Africa. Portus' analysis showed Razzak bent his arm more than the 15 degrees allowed by the ICC for a faster delivery.
The left-arm spinner's bowling action was reported as suspect during the two-Test series against New Zealand in October. He was reported for the same offense in 2004, during an Asia Cup match against Pakistan in Colombo. Umpires Daryl Harper and Asoka de Silva reported they had concerns over his action when bowling faster deliveries. The 26-year-old has taken seven wickets in five Test matches and claimed 111 wickets in 81 one-day internationals. *Reuters
