Pro League: Oman's Abdulsalam Al Mukhaini joins ranks of Baniyas

Abdulsalam Al Mukhaini will join Baniyas from Saudi Arabia's Al Raed on a one-year loan.

ABU DHABI // Abdulsalam Al Mukhaini, the Oman international, has replaced Nick Carle, the Australian midfielder, at Baniyas.

The 25-year-old centre back has moved from Saudi club Al Raed on a one-year loan to the Pro League side.

"I am very excited and looking forward to the season in the Emirates with my new teammates," Amour said after completing the medical and signing his contract at the club on Friday.

"I am also very familiar with the UAE football and took the advice of my Oman teammate Fawzi Basheer before deciding on the move."

Basheer played with Baniyas for three seasons.

Al Mukhaini has 22 international caps for Oman since making his debut in 2009.

The Omanis are second in their Asia qualifying group and have a strong chance of reaching the 2014 World Cup.

They hold a two-point lead over Australia with one game to play, to the Aussies' two.

Al Mukhaini began his club career with Al Oruba in 2008 and moved to the Saudi league in 2011.

He joins Baniyas as the Asian player, joining fellow expatriates Andre Senghor, the Senegalese striker and the club's most prolific scorer, and Christian Wilhelmsson, the Swedish international midfielder who has been given a contract extension until the end of 2014.

Baniyas are yet to name a coach to take over from Salem Al Orafi, who was in charge on an interim basis after Jozef Chovanec was moved from coach to technical consultant position in May.

They have also yet to decide on the future of Mohamed Zidan, the Egyptian international who missed the entire second half of the season because of a hamstring injury.

They are expected to make those decisions before they regroup for training in July.
