Jimmy Rollins, Jayson Werth, Carlos Ruiz and Raul Ibanez all homered as the Philadelphia Phillies ended the New York Yankees' nine-game winning streak with a 7-3 victory in Interleague action on Saturday. Rollins sent AJ Burnett's first pitch over the right-field scoreboard, while Alex Rodriguez, Derek Jeter and Mark Teixeira went long for the Yankees. Brett Myers (4-2) allowed three runs and eight hits in eight as the World Series champions won for the seventh time in eight to remain a game and a half ahead of the New York Mets at the top of the National League East.
In other action, the Mets ended a four-game losing streak with a 5-3 win over the Boston Red Sox. Gary Sheffield's 502nd career homer helped the Mets to their triumph. Toronto failed to take advantage as they remained half a game ahead of the Red Sox and one and a half clear of the Yankees in the American League East after Kenshin Kawakami shone on the mound to lead the Atlanta Braves to a 1-0 win over the Blue Jays.
Kawakami (3-5) lasted eight innings giving up only three hits with no walks and seven strikeouts. At the top of the American League Central, Brandon Inge homered as rookie Rick Porcello won his fourth straight start as the Detroit Tigers edged out the Colorado Rockies 4-3 to post their seventh consecutive victory. Porcello (5-3) gave up six hits and the lone Rockies run in the first six innings as Tigers stretched their lead over Kansas City to four games after the Royals lost 5-0 to the St Louis Cardinals.
