MUMBAI // The Pakistan Cricket Board have decided to pay an additional amount of US$30,000 (Dh110,000) to Geoff Lawson after the outgoing coach had threatened to go to court citing less consideration paid on the early termination of his contract. The PCB had maintained that they had paid him the rightful dues but yesterday a PCB media official said: "He has been paid $30,000 today. This is a bonus he was entitled for driving his Pakistan team into the final of Twenty20 World Cup last year."
Lawson was also entitled for this sum under a "job terminal benefits" clause. Pakistan had lost the final against India by five runs. The official added that Lawson has now agreed to leave the country. Meanwhile, the controversial umpire in Pakistan's forfeited Test against England at the Oval in 2006, Darrell Hair, has refused to see the MCC's call to retain the original status of a draw as a personal victory.
"The MCC control the laws of the game and their decision [to change the result] is final," Hair said. "It is two years from now and I want to forget the past." sports@thenational.ae
