Paralympics: Al Jahwari finishes seventh in discus as world record falls

UAE athlete Issa Al Jahwari put in a creditable performance at the London 2012 paralympics - as Russia's Alexey Ashapatov broke the F57/58 world record.

UAE Paralympic athlete Issa Al Jahwari has failed to land a medal in the F57/58 discus - but produced an impressive performance to finish seventh on a day when the world record fell.

The 25-year-old edged seventh place ahead of Mexico's Fernando del Rosario Gonzalez, scoring 862 points and covering 42.67m from the best of his six attempts.

Alexey Ashapatov threw a world record 60.72m for 1043 points to claim the gold medal in the event, ahead of Czech athlete Rostislav Pohlmann and Egypt's Metawa Abouelkhir.

Abouelkhir recorded a seasonal best with a throw of 54.19m, while Pohlmann's throw of 46.89m was his personal best

Jordanian athlete Amer Ali Mustafa Al Abbadi finished 14th out of 16, throwing 41.32m.
