WWE's Kofi Kingston: I can't wait to go back to Saudi Arabia for Super ShowDown
The WWE World Heavyweight champion is looking forward to the action on June 7 in Jeddah
WWE World Heavyweight champion Kofi Kingston "can't wait to go back" to Saudi Arabia as the countdown to WWE Super ShowDown in Jeddah on June 7 continues.
The event takes place at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium on June 7 as part of the American sports entertainment company’s collaboration with the Saudi General Sports Authority.
It is the WWE's third visit to Saudi since April 2018 and Kingston, who won his world title at WrestleMania 35 against Daniel Bryan in April, is excited by the prospect of returning to the Middle East.
"Every time we go to Saudi the show gets bigger and bigger," Kingston told The National during a phone interview. "It is almost like a second WrestleMania to be honest with you."
Kingston was speaking before it was announced that he would be defending his title against Dolph Ziggler in Jeddah, but he said that he felt a special relationship with the country and their growing passion for WWE.
"I have told this story before but before we ever had a show there I went there for promotional work," said the 37 year old. "I was there for seven days and it was one of the greatest experiences of my WWE career.
"It was great meeting and talking to fans and people there who had dreams of WWE coming to their country.
"Now you fast forward four or five years later and we have events now in Saudi that are just so big and I have witnessed the growth.
"To be a part of that is really special and every time we go to Saudi I look forward to that. The energy is of the charts and it is about putting smiles on people’s faces. I can’t wait to go back.”
Other confirmed matches on the card include The Undertaker v Goldberg, Triple H v Randy Orton, Roman Reigns v Shane McMahon and a 50-man Battle Royal.
Tickets are on sale and start from Dh25 and can be bought at www.shark.sa.
