UFC champion Khabib Nurmagomedov to attend UAE Warriors event in Abu Dhabi

Dagestan native will be the special guest during ninth edition of event at the Mubadala Arena on Friday

Undefeated UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov is expected to make an appearance in Abu Dhabi at this weekend’s UAE Warriors event.

The Dagestan native, 31, returns to the capital following his unification title victory against Dustin Poirier at UFC 242 in September on Yas Island, which took his professional record in mixed martial arts to 28-0.

On Wednesday, Khabib confirmed on social media that he would be the special guest at the ninth edition of the UAE Warriors, to be staged this Friday at the Mubadala Arena. Having landed in the UAE earlier this week, he is expected to also attend the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

While Khabib has not fought since his victory against Poirier at The Arena, he appears set to take on Tony Ferguson in April. On Tuesday, Khabib’s manager Ali Abdelaziz claimed his client has signed a contract for an April 18 meet in Brooklyn, with the UFC now reportedly waiting on Ferguson to follow suit.

Like Khabib, the American, the No 1-ranked challenger who boasts a 26-3 record, is enjoying a 12-fight winning streak in UFC. The two have agreed to fight four times previously, although the bout never materialised.

I will be there InshaAllah @uae_warriors
