UAE's Khalfan Belhoul settles for silver after fracturing ankle at Asian Games
Emirati concedes walkover in final to Haider Al Rasheed after injuring ankle in semi-final
The UAE added to their Asian Games medal collection on Sunday when Khalfan Belhoul was forced to settle for silver in the jiu-jitsu men’s 85-kilogram final.
Belhoul had to concede a walkover after fracturing his ankle in the semi-final at the Jakarta Convention Centre, as a result of which Haider Al Rasheed of Jordan was awarded the gold medal.
Belhoul's silver medal, along with Ali Al Lanjawi's second place in the Jet Ski Endurance Runabout Open final, means the UAE beat their previous best medals haul at an Asian Games, set at Doha in 2006, with three golds, six silver and three bronze so far.
Earlier, Mohammed Al Qubaisi defeated Erkhbayar Batkhuyag of Mongolia by advantage points (3-2) to take the first of two bronze medals on offer in the jiu-jitsu men’s 77kg division.
Saoud Al Hammadi missed out on the second bronze, though, when he lost to Jordanian Abdelkarim Al Rashid over the referee’s decision following a 1-1 deadlock.
The UAE topped the jiu-jitsu medals table with two gold, five silver and two bronze medals across eight weight divisions.

Meanwhile, Saif Al Mansoori won bronze in the skeet after finishing behind Mansour Al Rashidi of Kuwait and China's Di Jin in the South Sumatran capital of Palembang.
The result came shortly after Al Lanjawi won silver in the Jet Ski Endurance Runabout Open final, also in Palembang. Al Lanjawi finished second behind Indonesia’s Aqsa Sultan Anwar in the Endurance Runabout Moto Open. Suphathat Footrakul of Thailand took bronze.
This was Al Lanjawi's second medal at the 2018 Games after the Emirati won the Runabout Limited final on Friday.
