Raikkonen looks for more from Ferrari after third place

The Finn is pleased with his best result of the season in Monaco, but says the Italian team need to continue their progress.

Kimi Raikkonen was pleased with his best result of the season after finishing third for Ferrari in Monaco, but says the Italian team need to continue their progress. The Finn finished a competitive third in Monte Carlo, pushing Rubens Barrichello's Brawn hard for the duration of the race, with teammate Felipe Massa close behind in fourth spot. "We need to be happy with this result, given the way the team started the season," Raikkonen said.

"Of course in the bigger picture I'm not happy with third place - I'm disappointed. But, in this situation, for the team it is a good result." Raikkonen had hoped to challenge for victory after qualifying second on the grid, but he made a slow start and was passed by Barrichello before the first corner. "It is not the first time I have been in second place and lost position at the start," the 2007 world champion added. "It is very slippery on that side, and they were on the soft tyres at the start, so that definitely didn't help us."

Raikkonen now has nine points for the season, and he acknowledged they need more speed if they are to beat Brawn. "We're still not where we want to be - we have many things to do to be able to fight for first position - but the people are working very hard at the factory and we have improved the car quite a lot at least," he said. gcaygill@thenational.ae
