This weekend, Manny Pacquiao returns to the ring in his WBA welterweight title fight against the undefeated Keith Thurman. Here are the details.
Pacquiao eyes more success
Pacquiao, boxing’s only eight-division world champion, enters his third title fight in 12 months having successfully defended his welterweight belt against Argentine Lucas Matthysse and Adrien Broner. In the latter, in January, Pacquiao stormed to a unanimous points decision. The fight against Thurman represents the Filipino’s 71st as a professional.
Who is Pacquiao fighting?
Now aged 40, and one of 24 elected senators in the Philippines, Pacquiao’s battle with Thurman therefore could be his most dangerous in recent years. The American, nicknamed “One Time” and 10 years his junior, is undefeated in 29 professional bouts, claiming 22 knockouts. Pacquiao’s current record, meanwhile, stands at 61-7-2, with 39 KOs.
When is the fight?
Pacquiao-Thurman takes place on Saturday night in the US, but given the time difference, the bout is expected to commence around 9am on Sunday in the UAE.
Where is it?
The fight will be staged at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
