Karting: Ahmed Al Saadi and Amna Al Qubaisi impress on UAE National Day in RAK
The Daman Speed Academy (DSA) celebrated the UAE National Day with two podium finishes in Ras Al Khaimah over the weekend, in Round 3 of the IAME X30 Challenge Emirates at RAK Track.
Ahmed Al Saadi and Amna Al Qubaisi, the two DSA junior drivers, both finished third in their respective categories, but Al Qubaisi’s younger sister Hamda (junior category) missed out on a podium finish when the rear-right tyre of her kart was damaged in an incident that happened during a false start in the final.
Al Saadi himself did not have a smooth start in the cadet category. Starting from pole, he finished first in the heat and second in the pre-final, but was crowded out in a busy start to the final, slipping to seventh.
The gutsy young DSA driver, however, stepped on the gas and eventually managed to secure a podium finish on the final lap. He also clocked the fastest lap, at 45.186 seconds.
“It was a really fast final race,” said Al Saadi. “I am really happy with the result especially after a very difficult start. When I overtook from fourth to third, I was not aware that it was the final lap; I was just concentrating on the race and pushing the pace.”
Al Qubaisi also had a bit of misfortune in the senior category, suffering a puncture and slipping to seventh in the heat, but she still managed to bounce back and take first spot in that race. In the pre-final, she took the flag in fourth but moved up a spot in the final.
“I’m happy with the third place, although it could have been better,” she said. “In general I’m really happy with my pace and looking forward to the next round.”
Both Al Saadi and Al Qubaisi dedicated their podium finish to the UAE’s 45th National Day anniversary.
“They are going much faster right now and you can see that they are improving their pace race after race,” said Khaled Al Qubaisi, DSA founder and the managing director of Abu Dhabi Racing.
“The team is doing really well making sure the karts are prepared in the best way possible and the drivers are doing their best to maximise their performance out of the karts.
“This is showing in their performance and pace; I am so proud of all our drivers.
