Emirati driver Khaled al Qubaisi settles for third in Riyadh
Khaled al Qubaisi lost out on a second-place finish on the last lap of the sixth round of the Porsche GT3 Cup in Saudi Arabia yesterday.
The Emirati driver had looked set to be runner-up to Prince Abdulaziz al Faisal, the dominant home favourite, but he was passed on the last lap by Sheikh Salman bin Rashid Al Khalifa, the Bahraini driver and championship leader, and finished third.
Al Qubaisi's compatriots Musaed al Murar and Ibrahim Salloum finished seventh and eighth respectively in the race at the Reem International Circuit outside Riyadh.
Al Qubaisi remains third in the championship, 12 points adrift of Prince Abdulaziz, with the next two rounds of the series in Bahrain on February 18 and19.
Meanwhile, Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa will be looking to extend his lead in the DD2 category of the UAE Rotax Max Challenge today at the Dubai Autodrome.
Sheikh Khalid won the last round at Al Ain Raceway earlier this month to move to the top of the drivers' table. He has an 11-point lead over Mohammed al Dhaheri, last year's champion, going into today's sixth round. Al Dhaheri had won the opening three rounds of the season, but mechanical problems have seen him fail to finish the last two races.
