Citroen Al Qassimi's drive to promote Abu Dhabi

The five-year deal with Citroen will allow Abu Dhabi Racing, of which Sheikh Khalid is the chairman, to promote the emirate and the UAE as a whole.

Sheikh Khalid Al Qassimi is to return to the World Rally Championship [WRC] next year after a deal was agreed between the newly founded Abu Dhabi Racing and the French manufacturers Citroen.

Sheikh Khalid's last drove in a WRC event 12 months ago in Spain when he appeared for the Ford team, but he will now compete for Citroen Total Abu Dhabi World Rally team, beginning with the Monte Carlo Rally in January.

The Emirati said: "Naturally, I am delighted to have the chance to return to WRC action, but more importantly this is a unique opportunity to carry the Abu Dhabi brand to a worldwide audience."

The five-year deal with Citroen will allow Abu Dhabi Racing, of which Sheikh Khalid is the chairman, to promote the emirate and the UAE as a whole.

"Abu Dhabi is already established as one of the world's premier Formula One destinations, and enjoys massive exposure," he said.

"The Abu Dhabi brand will now be projected more powerfully than ever before in the World Rally Championship by the most successful works team in WRC history, and the partnership with Citroen can lead to many more benefits for Abu Dhabi Racing, and the Emirates as a whole."

Sheikh Khalid will contest the full season of 13 rallies as part of a three-car team with Citroen.
