Despite winning six of the first seven races of the season, Ross Brawn is not taking anything for granted. Jenson Button leads the championship by 26 points from his teammate Rubens Barrichello and Brawn GP have a 39.5 point lead in the constructors championship, but Brawn is keeping his feet firmly on the ground as he looks ahead to this weekend's British Grand Prix.
"We haven't won anything yet and you never engage in the thoughts that it's all over," the former Ferrari technical director said. A retirement, or some other factor, can make a difference. "Having had three seasons at Ferrari where we didn't do it, but got very close to doing it, then you don't engage in those thoughts until they are done and you have won." Remarkably, Brawn GP are already making their mark in history thanks to the achievements of Button.
If he finishes first on home soil at Silverstone, he will join Michael Schumacher as the only driver to win seven of the first eight races in a season, and Brawn is full of credit for his British driver. "It's belief," he says. "It's such a strong element and it's the same for the team as well as Jenson. "Once you start to win races you realise you know you are capable and no one else is more capable than you.
"If you put it all together, you are going to win races. "That gives the team great confidence too. Jenson is getting better and better and the team works and functions very well. "There's no reason why we should not be winning more races and be there at the top for the rest of the season if we do a decent job." Brawn is looking forward to his team's home race and having won there with Ferrari in 1998, 2003 and 2004 he is looking forward to the Silverstone race and wants another win.
