The UAE kept alive their jet-ski medal hopes after Ali Al Lanjawi and Mohsin Mohammed moved to Friday’s medal round of the Runabout Limited.

In the other competitions, Khaled Al Kaabi finished sixth after qualifying for the medal round in the men’s double trap, while Ghalia Al Blooshi and Alya Al Ahmed were both eliminated in the Round of 32 in the women’s archery recurve individual.

Al Blooshi was defeated 6-0 by Enkhtuya Altangerel of Mongolia, and Al Ahmed went down 6-2 to Asel Sharbekova of Kyrgyzstan.

However, there was disappointment for the UAE’s top cyclist after Yousif Mirza fell short of his medal ambitions in the 150-kilometre road race on Thursday.

The Emirati was comfortable in the peloton on the flat roads, but faded when the tempo increased on the uphill of the final 18km of the race to finish 23rd.

Kazakhstan’s Astana rider Alexey Lutsenko won the race ahead of Japan’s Fumiyuki Beppo. Navuti Liphongyu of Thailand completed the podium.

The UAE football team will have to deal with a partisan crowd when they take on hosts Indonesia in the last-16 at the Wibawa Mukti stadium in Palembang on Friday.

The UAE made it through to the knockout round as one of four best third-place teams after one win from three games in the group phase.
