What is it?

The Adnoc Abu Dhabi Marathon (42.195 kilometres) is being staged for the first time in the capital. It’s open to both elite and amateur runners. Included in the schedule on the day are a half-marathon for men and women, and races over 10km, 5km, 2.5km distances for men and women of all ages and for juniors.

When is it?

Friday, December 7, starting from 6am.

Routes

The marathon and 10km race start and finish opposite the Adnoc Tower on the Corniche Road.

Award Ceremonies

The marathon and 10km award ceremony will take place at Adnoc Tower at 8.45am and the presentation of awards for all other categories, excluding the fun run, at the Event Village from 11am.

Who is competing?

Ethiopians Feyisa Lilesa, the 2016 Rio Olympics marathon silver medallist, Abera Kuma, winner of the 2018 Rotterdam Marathon, Abayneh Ayele, Birhanu Addissie Achamie, Markos Geneti and Dino Sefir are among the elite runners in the men's marathon.

The Kenyan challenge will come from Abraham Kiptum, the 2018 Daegu Marathon winner, Marius Kipserem, Stanley Biwott and Thomas Kiplagat.

Headlining the women's marathon is Ethiopia's Gelete Burka, 10,000m silver medallist at the 2015 World Championships and Bahrain's 2018 Asian Games silver medalist Eunice Chumba Chebichii.

Prize money

The winners of the men's and women's marathons will each receive US$100,000 (Dh368,000) from the total prize fund $379,000.

Where to watch it

The race village will be open from 5am and have live coverage on a giant screen where food and beverages can be purchased from food trucks.

The key spectator viewing points of the marathon route can be anywhere on the Corniche Road and the turning points as below:

Adnoc Tower/Corniche Road – start, 17km and 42km

Corniche Road near World Trade Centre – 5km and 38km

Bainunah Park – 22km and Finish

Qasr Al Hosn – 28km

Zayed Port – 34km

Bainunah Park – Event Village

Set behind Adnoc Tower and 500m from Nation Tower, is the heart of the event village and is open 3-9pm December 3-6 and 4am-2pm on December 7.
