Opinion Poll set for Meydan outing in Zabeel Mile

It is the presence of Gingerbreadman, however, from the Bruce Marsh stable that will attract most interest.

Jockey Frankie Dettori and Opinion Pollright, won the Weatherbys Insurance Lonsdale Cup during the Ebor Festival at York Racecourse.

Singapore horses have failed to fire in recent weeks but the island nation could be well represented in Thursday's Group 2 Zabeel Mile at Meydan Racecourse.

Steven Burridge lit up the Dubai World Cup Carnival earlier this season with four wins from his first five runners in the UAE but since then the Singapore juggernaut has stalled.

Burridge has not had a winner with four subsequent runners and new arrival Michael Freedman has saddled four horses without success. Both trainers have entrants in the US$250,000 (Dh 918.275) contest with Burridge relying on Dark Matter and Freedman on Always Certain.

It is the presence of Gingerbreadman, however, from the Bruce Marsh stable that will attract most interest.

Gingerbreadman finished second to Mitre Peak in the Woodlands Classic at Kranji Racecourse over 2,000 metres on his last start but drops back to 1,600m in preparation for a possible run in the Dubai Duty Free over 1,800m on March 31.

Among the entries are Mike de Kock's Viscount Nelson, who must concede weight to all rivals on account of his victory in the Group 2 Al Fahidi Fort.

The card also features the seasonal reappearance of Opinion Poll, Godolphin's flagship stayer last season who has been entered in the Group 3 Nad Al Sheba Trophy over 2,810m.

The six year old picked up the Group 2 Lonsdale Cup and Goodwood Cup last season, and finished second to Fame And Glory, his Ascot Gold Cup conqueror, in the Long Distance Cup on British Champions Day in October.
