Norwich City 2 Everton 2

Norwich Whittaker 51', Van Wolfswinkel 71' Everton Barkley 61', Coleman 65'

Ricky van Wolfswinkel's header secured a point for Norwich after four goals in 20 minutes. Norwich took the lead through an unlikely Steven Whittaker goal. Everton then hit back through Ross Barkley and Seamus Coleman before Van Wolfswinkel's strike.

Sunderland 0 Fulham 1

Fulham Kasami 52'

Paolo Di Canio's summer revolution fell flat as Pajtim Kasami headed a second-half winner to snatch three points for Fulham. The Swiss youth international Kasami headed home a corner to score his first goal since joining Fulham in 2011. It was Fulham's only real chance of a game in which Di Canio fielded five new signings.

West Brom 0 Southampton 1

Southampton Lambert (pen) 90'

A late penalty from man-of-the-moment Rickie Lambert ensured Southampton's Premier League season got off to a winning start, at the Hawthorns. Lambert, who headed the winning goal in midweek in a 3-2 victory over Scotland with the first touch of his England debut, coolly dispatched the spot-kick.

West Ham United 2 Cardiff City 0

West Ham Cole 13', Nolan 76'

West Ham made a comfortable start to the season with goals from Joe Cole and Kevin Nolan ensuring Cardiff's Premier League debut ended in defeat. Cole's fine early strike separated the teams until Nolan's clever goal put the result beyond doubt.
