Utah Jazz star who was the first NBA player to test positive has pledged $500,000 to various causes

Utah Jazz player Rudy Gobert, who was the first NBA player to test positive for Covid-19, announced he would be donating $500,000 (Dh1.836 million) to various causes: $200,000 would be provided to game-day staff, while $100,000 will be donated to families impacted by the virus in Utah and Oklahoma City, and the other $100,000 will got to France, Gobert's home country. While, in the grander scheme of the situation, the cancellation of sports events is a trivial matter compared to health and safety, many people's livelihoods have been placed at risk as part-time and hourly-contract workers miss out on vital shifts.

With the NBA and other American sports leagues in lockdown, athletes, owners, and organisations have been donating to various efforts to ease the financial burden brought on by the cancellation of events in response to the coronavirus outbreak.
