YORK, England // This has been a vintage European Turf season for Princess Haya and Newfangled could give her one for the future by winning the Lowther Stakes at York today.

Powered by the training skills of John Gosden and the jockeyship of William Buick, Her Highness has registered 19 victories in Britain this season. Joviality and Newfangled made it a Royal Ascot to remember in June when they won respectively the Group 2 Windsor Forest Stakes and the Group 3 Albany Stakes.

Courtesy of the likes of Questioning and Colombian, who was third in the Arlington Million at the weekend, Group victories have continued to flow in.

The Group 2 Lowther Stakes is a traditional stepping stone to the following season's 1000 Guineas and has a rich history of being won by owners based in the UAE.

Jaber Abdullah has won the six-furlong contest three times in the past decade with Lady Of The Desert (2009) and Flashy Wings (2005), while Nahoodh also scored for him in 2007 before being transferred to Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed.

Newfangled is joined in the race by Mohamed Obaida's Badr Al Badoor, trained by James Fanshawe, and ridden by woman of the moment, Hayley Turner.

The Acclamation filly easily accounted for 12 rivals in a maiden at Doncaster in June, after she missed a Group 3 engagement at Royal Ascot due to illness.

"She carried a temperature which prevented her from running at Ascot in the Princess Margaret but that was some time ago and she has been pleasing in her work at home," Bruce Raymond, racing manager for owner Mohamed Obaida, said.

"She is less experienced than some of her rivals, which is a concern, but she did it very well on debut and the form has been franked. She came between horses that day and quickened very well - we are hopeful of a big run."

The Fugue, who is being aimed at the Dubai World Cup meeting next season, takes centre stage in the Yorkshire Oaks later on the card.

Gosden sent out The Fugue to win the Group 1 Nassau Stakes at Glorious Goodwood this month but she steps up two furlongs for today's Group 1 event.

"The Fugue has been in good form since the Nassau and she goes well on the track," said the Newmarket trainer.
