Moyes ‘not sure yet’ Everton’s needs up front have been met

David Moyes, the Everton manager, knows he has left himself a little bit short up front after his transfer window dealings saw two strikers leave and only one arrive.

David Moyes, the Everton manager, knows he has left himself a little bit short up front after his transfer window dealings saw two strikers leave and only one arrive.

Moyes brought in the untested Argentinian Denis Stracqualursi, having allowed Jermaine Beckford to join Leicester and Ayegbeni Yakubu to go to Blackburn.

The Toffees boss accepts that he has no idea how the player on loan from the Buenos Aires side Tigre – or fellow deadline-day arrival Royston Drenthe – will perform in the Premier League

Ahead of Saturday’s game at Aston Villa, Moyes said: “There weren’t an awful lot of centre-forwards out there we could get, and [Stracqualursi] became available to us at the last minute. In the end it was nearly worth the gamble to see how he does. He has a good goal-scoring record in Argentina, but I’m not sure yet. We’ll find out in time. He looks like he’s got a good goal-scoring record and looks like he can finish.”
