More than 50,000 in fray to be the Million Player
Male and female gamers across the country will have the chance to walk away with Dh1 million at the first edition of the Million Player tournament during Ramadan.
The Pro Evolution Soccer tournament, under the patronage of Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed, will be played on PlayStation 3 systems and is expected to have more than 50,000 participants taking part.
Already signed up is the Al Ain playmaker and UAE international poster boy Omar Abdulrahman, with the tournament starting on the second day of Ramadan and running to the 28th of the holy month.
The competition, launched by Abu Dhabi Sports Council along with several other UAE government agencies is the biggest of its kind in the world and is set to become an annual fixture during Ramadan.
The competition winner walks away with Dh1m, the runner-up Dh300,000 and third place pockets Dh100,000. Fourth and fifth make Dh50,000 and Dh40,000, respectively, while sixth to 10th each receive Dh30,000.
Spectators at the event can also enter a raffle draw, with the top prize a Range Rover Evoque. One hundred other spectators will win mobile phones.
Million Player will take place in Abu Dhabi (Al Jazira Club for men, and Zayed Sports City for women), at Dubai's Al Ahli and Al Shabab clubs; at Al Ain club. Al Sharjah Club in Sharjah; Zahra branch of Emirates Club in Ras Al Khaimah and Al Khaleej Club in Fujairah.
The tournament is open to male and female gamers. Despite stating registration will close on June 20, the event's official website was still accepting entries as of yesterday.
