UAE snooker players Mohammed Shehab and Mohammed Al Joaker bowed out of the 2013 Asian Snooker Championship as they both lost their last round robin, first-round matches at Sheraton Karachi on Tuesday.
Shehab was up against teenaged Thai Boonyarit Keatikun on Tuesday and needed a victory in the match to move ahead to the last 16 stage but he suffered a shock 4-0 defeat that ended his run in the tournament.
Keatikun, who was also on the brink of elimination, put on an exceptional show of potting that included a century break as well to qualify for the next round.
Shehab had earlier recorded a 4-2 victory over Andy Lee of Hong Kong on Saturday, lost 4-1 to Shahid Aftab of Pakistan and defeated Ahmed Saif of Qatar 4-2.
Al Joaker also needed a 4-2 win over Mohammad Rais Senzahi of Afghanistan but went down 4-3 in his last Group G match on Tuesday.
Al Joaker had gone into the match with a 4-3 victory Abdul Sattar of Pakistan, a 4-0 triumph over Susantha Botheju of Sri Lanka and 4-0 defeat at the hands of Marvin Lim of Singapore.
The knockout stage of the championship starts on Wednesday with the final being scheduled for Friday.
