MLB round-up: Blow for beaten Blue Jays as Bautista suffers wrist injury

Raul Ibanez smashed a go-ahead grand slam in the eighth inning to lift the American League East-leading New York Yankees to a 6-3 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday.

After the Blue Jays lost slugger Jose Bautista with a wrist injury, Ibanez smashed a 3-1 pitch from Jason Frasor into the right-field seats - his 10th career grand slam - to break a 2-2 tie in the series opener at Yankee Stadium.

Elsewhere, Adrian Gonzalez's three-run homer in the eighth inning spurred the Boston Red Sox to a 5-1 triumph over the AL Central-leading Chicago White Sox at Fenway Park.

Brennan Boesch hit a tiebreaking, two-run homer in the seventh inning as the Detroit Tigers rallied from 5-2 down to beat the Los Angeles Angels 8-6, while the Minnesota Twins snapped their five-game losing streak in emphatic style with a 19-7 success against the Baltimore Orioles.

Casper Wells homered and drove in a career-high five runs in the Seattle Mariners' 9-4 victory over the Kansas City Royals and the Cleveland Indians won 3-2 against the Tampa Bay Rays.

The National League East-leading Washington Nationals went down 5-3 against Miami, Hanley Ramirez clubbing a two-run homer for the Marlins.

Dexter Fowler's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth inning proved decisive as the Colorado Rockies beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 5-4.

Miguel Montero drove in four runs as the Arizona Diamondbacks edged the Cincinnati Reds 5-3, while Allen Craig's RBI single in the ninth inning earned the St Louis Cardinals a 3-2 win against the Milwaukee Brewers.

Finally, the Philadelphia Phillies were 3-2 winners against the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Houston Astros prevailed 2-0 against the San Diego Padres.
