Mexico back Eriksson

The Mexican Football Federation (Femexfut) have given a vote of confidence to the national team coach Sven-Goran Eriksson.

The Mexican Football Federation (Femexfut) have given a vote of confidence to the national team coach Sven-Goran Eriksson but expressed their dissatisfaction with the way the team advanced to the final round of World Cup qualification. The president Justino Compean and secretary general Decio de Maria headed a board meeting where they decided to retain the Swede, but insisted the national side must improve their form.

Mexico made it into the final round of the Concacaf qualifying zone by winning their three home games, but took just one point on their travels. A 1-0 defeat away to Honduras in their final game put their qualification at risk, but they advanced on goal difference at Jamaica's expense. Femexfut released a report with four items, three of them about Eriksson's position. The final qualifying round will see Mexico play home and away games against the United States, El Salvador, Honduras, Trinidad & Tobago and Costa Rica.
