Japan international star becomes Sir Alex Ferguson's first signing of the summer after agreeing a move from Borussia Dortmund.
Manchester United confirm deal to sign Japan star Shinji Kagawa
Manchester United have made their first transfer move of the summer after confirming the signing Shinji Kagawa from Borussia Dortmund.
Negotiations have been on-going with the in-demand Japan international for a number of weeks.
Reports from Germany last month suggested the deal was in excess of EU15m (AED69m).
Kagawa's transfer to Old Trafford will be subject to a medical and work permit, which although likely to be a formality are not expected to be completed until the end of the month.
Kagawa is currently on international duty and played in Japan's 3-0 World Cup qualifying round victory over Oman at the weekend.
"Manchester United is delighted to announce that it has agreed terms with both Borussia Dortmund and Shinji Kagawa for his transfer to the club," said a United statement.
"The deal is subject only to the player medical and obtaining a UK work permit. These conditions are anticipated to be completed by the end of June.
"Further details will be announced in due course."
Kagawa was named in the Bundesliga's team of the season for 2010-11 despite being absent through injury for half the campaign, then last term went on to score 16 goals as Dortmund completed the domestic league and cup double.
Ferguson and assistant Mike Phelan made a personal check on the 23-year-old the day before United's final match at Sunderland, when they saw Kagawa grab one goal and create another in Dortmund's 5-2 German Cup triumph over Bayern Munich.
Meanwhile Paul Pogbal is on the verge of finalising his transfer from Manchester United to Juventus.
The 19-year-old turned down the offer of a new contract with United and could become Juve's first summer signing.
"I am thinking about my future, I am in Italy with Juventus to discuss my transfer," Pogba wrote on Twitter this morning.
Pogba left Le Havre to join United's youth academy in 2009. He made just three league appearances for the Red Devils last season.
