Sharjah have signed Leonardo Lima on a one-year loan from Al Nasr as replacement for their injured Brazilian midfielder Fellype Gabriel. Gabriel, 28, injured his cruciate ligament last week during training at Sharjah’s pre-season camp in Germany and, with the possibility of him missing the entire season, the club moved quickly to bring in Lima, who was pondering a return to Brazil after being discarded by Nasr. Lima was looking for a new club after four seasons at Nasr following the arrival of Sampdoria’s Brazilian midfielder Renan, and Sharjah coach Paulo Bonamigo has managed to convince him to stay in the UAE. “Lima plays in the same position as Gabriel and coach Bonamigo was convinced he would be the best replacement as we have seen him play in the UAE for many years now,” a club official said. “So there can be no doubt about the quality and experience he brings to the team.”
