Korotyshkin eyes happy return at Swimming World Cup
DUBAI // Short-course specialist Evgeny Korotyshkin is the latest top-class swimmer to confirm participation at the Fina/Arena Swimming World Cup, to be held in Dubai next month.
It will be a happy return to the pool at the Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Sports Complex, where the 28-year-old Russian claimed 100-metre butterfly gold at last year's short-course world championships.
Korotyshkin, who is also two-time Olympic finalist and world record holder in the 100m butterfly in a 25m pool, is excited to compete for Russia in this World Cup format.
"For many swimmers this World Cup will be the first important meet to use as a test ahead of Olympic year," Korotyshkin said. "I really hope to get a gold medal again and I'm very glad that I got a chance to take on this challenge in Dubai.
"This World Cup is going to be very exciting for both swimmers and for the public because many famous athletes from around the world will come to compete again in Dubai."
The World Cup will be held on October 7 to 8. Tickets for the event are available on the door.
