Kinnear on the mend after health scare
The Newcastle manager Joe Kinnear is expected to be released from hospital early this week after tests revealed he had no serious problem. Kinnear, 62, was admitted to hospital on Saturday morning after complaining of feeling unwell at the team hotel in the midlands ahead of their 3-2 win at West Bromwich Albion. A club spokesman said: "He underwent a series of tests during the day and the subsequent results have shown he is OK. As a precaution, Joe will remain in hospital for observation for a couple of days and will then be discharged."
Kinnear said: "Although I missed the game, I had my grandson giving me a full commentary on the match. It was a great win for us and I told Chris [Hughton, his assistant manager] well done and to pass on my congratulations to the players." Kinnear, who suffered a mild heart attack in March 1999, was appointed interim manager by the Magpies in September. * PA Sport
