Matt King scored a regal double as Warrington Wolves battled to a 14-10 victory over Huddersfield yesterday. The big Australian opened the scoring and then brought the Wolves level after Kevin Brown and Paul Whatuira, who scored on his return to the Giants side following personal problems, had touched down for Huddersfield. The sides were tied at 10-10 at the interval. Warrington secured their victory through a Chris Hicks try to move back into second place in the Super League two points behind leaders Wigan. Free-scoring winger Shaun Ainscough marked his Castleford debut with a sensational hat-trick but still finished on the losing side as Hull KR came from 20-12 down to condemn the Tigers to a third successive defeat. Ainscough, 20, signed this week on a month's loan as a short-term replacement for broken-leg victim Richard Owen, shot to prominence last season with 17 tries in just 12 appearances for hometown club Wigan, including one on debut against the Tigers.
Terry Matterson, the Tigers coach, was left to bemoan his side's misfortune. "There were at least three controversial calls and we didn't get any of them," said the Australian. Castleford led 10-0 after nine minutes and were eight points in front when Ainscough completed his hat-trick on 53 minutes. "It was a real good debut," added Matterson. "He knows his way to the tryline. It's disappointing to score three tries and end up on the losing side.
"I am disappointed with some of the things we did. We got into a position to win the game. It was a carbon copy of the Warrington game. "We didn't have enough patience. "It was one that got away.
