Al Wahda's championship defence takes a fatal blow in their 4-2 home defeat to Al Dhafra, leaving them 14 points behind league leaders Al Jazira.
Kabi hat-trick for Dhafra a huge blow to Wahda
Al Wahda's championship defence took perhaps a fatal blow last night when Boris Kabi scored three goals to lead the visitors Al Dhafra to a shock 4-2 victory at Al Nahyan Stadium.
Wahda's second defeat of the week left them 14 points behind the Pro League leaders Al Jazira, and, even with a game in hand, Wahda seem too far back to catch their Abu Dhabi rivals.
Ahmed Abdullah of Dhafra opened the scoring in the 33rd minute, and Kabi headed in a second.
Wahda fought back to 2-2 with goals from Ismail Matar and Fernando Baiano, but Kabi scored another two in the final 10 minutes to complete Wahda's downfall.
Al Jazira moved into a commanding position at the season's midpoint as Yasir Matar, Khalid Sabeel, Matias Delgado and Bare scored in a 4-1 away win over Dubai. Jazira, unbeaten in 11 matches, are seeking their first league title.
Elsewhere, the visitors Al Shabab held Al Ain 1-1 despite playing an hour with only 10 men. Dawood Ali scored for Shabab and the Argentina Jose Sand for Al Ain.
Ismail Bangoura scored twice in the final 20 minutes as the host Al Nasr defeated Kalba 2-0.
