Rashed Bouresly completed his second winning double in six days with Miqyaas and Shanty Star winning their respective maiden races at Meydan on Thursday.
The Kuwaiti trainer replicated his success last weekend at Jebel Ali with the same two jockeys, Adrie de Vries (Miqyaas) and Fabrice Veron (Shanty Star) at Dubai's flagship racecourse.
Miqyaas was a convincing winner in the opening race in only his second start while Shanty Star finally came home ahead of the pack at the 11th attempt in the third race.
Miqyaas made all the running to cross the finishing line ahead of Far Sky and What A Metal.
“He jumped out fast and got going straightaway,” De Vries said of the five-year-old Oasis Dream gelding.
“My only worry was when I started to push him he got a little bit green, wandered around a bit halfway in the straight.
“Just greenness. It’s only his second start. He’s a horse with a lot of natural speed. He will not be in this kind of company for long because he’s got a lot of ability.
“It’s the first time I sat on him and he gave me a really good feeling. He’s got a lot of room for improvement.”
Veron tracked Lady Snazz down the back straight of the 1,600-metre trip before leading all the way from 900m to win from Falshood by a length-and-three-quarters. Apolo Kid was a further seven lengths behind in third.
“This was my first time on him and he ran a pretty good race,” Veron said. “He did everything well tonight. He broke well and stayed with the pace, and then quickened again towards the end.”
Bouresly narrowly missed out on a treble when Richard Mullen atop Satish Seemar’s Speedy Move collared Davy Lamp, also ridden by Veron, close to the finish line in the fifth race.
Mullen’s victory also moved him to within two of 500 wins in the UAE.
The Englishman remains on course to reach that milestone in the next couple of days. He is booked in all seven races at Al Ain on Friday and rides in five of the six races in Abu Dhabi on Saturday.
