Nymphea Du Paon has been disqualified from winning Round 1 of the Arabian Triple Crown in Abu Dhabi after it was found she had been administered Furosemide, otherwise known as Lasix.
The four-year-old filly, owned by Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed, the President of the UAE, was found by the Equine Forensic Unit to have been administered the anti-bleeding substance which was detected by post-race urine sample.
The results were ratified by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Laboratory.
Ernst Oertel, the UAE champion trainer, was fined Dh60,000 for presenting the filly to the race with the prohibited substance still in her system, and was fined another Dh5,000 for failing to enter the medication in the filly’s official log book.
Nymphea Du Paon was adding to her victory in the Abu Dhabi Championship in December when ridden by jockey James Doyle in the Listed event for Purebred Arabians.
Oertel’s preparations to get Battle Of Marengo ready for his intended UAE debut in the second round of the Al Maktoum Challenge a week today took a significant step up when Frankie Dettori enjoyed a spin around Meydan Racecourse on the Dubai World Cup hopeful yesterday morning.
Battle Of Marengo worked for the first time under the Italian, who has displaced Tadhg O’Shea as rider, with a lead horse.
