Krypton Factor and Reynaldothewizard will meet again over the same course and distance, and Balmont Mast, who split them on World Cup night, has also been entered, reports Geoffrey Riddle.
Horse racing champions ready to renew rivalry in Dubawi Stakes
An intriguing Dubawi Stakes is in the offing at Meydan Racecourse on Thursday after the past two Dubai Golden Shaheen winners were entered for the Listed Sprint.
Krypton Factor won the Golden Shaheen in 2012 for the Bahraini trainer Fawzi Nass, but went down by just under a length in defence of his title to Reynaldothewizard in the US$2 million (Dh7.34m) 1,200m Tapeta sprint in March.
The pair are set to renew the rivalry over the same course and distance, and Balmont Mast, who split them on World Cup night, has also been entered by Irish trainer Eddie Lynam.
Reynaldonthewizard has not run since his triumph, but Balmont Mast and Krypron Factor have been rested since their European campaigns.
“He has had a good break since running at Goodwood in July,” Nass said. “He shipped to Dubai in September so he has had plenty of time to acclimatise. He runs well fresh and we are hoping he will run well.”
Elsewhere on the six-race card, both Godolphin and Mike de Kock look set for another night of dominance.
Godolphin secured three wins on the opening night of the Dubai World Cup Carnival on Thursday, while the South African trainer posted two wins.
Charlie Appleby has entered three fillies in the UAE 1,000 Guineas Trial, with the highly regarded Wedding Ring among the 11 entries. The Marmoom Stables trainer has also entered Autumn Lily and Feedyah, while De Kock could run Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa’s Magrooma and Magroora.
The two operations are set to slug it out in the UAE 2,000 Guineas Trial, also, with Godolphin entering Figure Of Speech, Emirates Flyer and Safety Check, enterprisingly named given the colt is out of a Doors-To-Manual mare.
De Kock has entered Full Combat and Journeyman, two colts that he bought out of South Africa and who endured the full quarantine procedure in Mauritius, England and Dubai last year.
