Guoan's family fortune

It was a real family affair in China as the Australian Ryan Griffiths scored and his brother Joel set up another goal on Tuesday to help Beijing Guoan to a 2-0 victory in Group E over a Newcastle Jets team including Joel's twin Adam.

It was a real family affair in China as the Australian Ryan Griffiths scored and his brother Joel set up another goal on Tuesday to help Beijing Guoan to a 2-0 victory in Group E over a Newcastle Jets team including Joel's twin Adam. "For the brothers it was a good night," said Ryan, who, like Joel, is a former Newcastle player. "It's something that has never been done before, so to score a goal on a night like this and to set one up was pretty special.

"Newcastle is my home city and I love the city. I know I scored against them but that's football." Adam Griffiths played in the Newcastle midfield and so rarely came in contact with his brothers, who were up front for Beijing. "It wasn't that strange because he was never really marking me," said Ryan. "But I saw he was quite aggressive and played a good game." However Beijing's coach Lee Jang-soo was not overly impressed with Griffiths brothers.

"I wasn't happy," said the Korean, whose expression left no doubt why he is nicknamed "Iron Face". "They gave about 70 to 80 per cent of their best." * Reuters
