Tommy Fleetwood beats Dustin Johnson and Pablo Larrazabal to win Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship
ABU DHABI // Englishman Tommy Fleetwood won the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship on Sunday, finishing one stroke ahead of Dustin Johnson and Pablo Larrazabal, his nearest challengers.
The world No 102, playing in the penultimate group after beginning the day one stroke behind overnight leader Tyrrell Hatton, carded a fine five-under par 67 at the National Course to come home 17-under for the tournament and record only his second European Tour victory.
Fleetwood, 26, bogeyed the third hole, but a run of two birdies and an eagle in four holes form the eighth pushed him to the summit. He then birdied 16 before adding another on the 18th to seal the Falcon Trophy. It was the lowest round of the day.
Fleetwood’s only other tour victory came 1,247 days ago, at the 2013 Johnnie Walker Championship.
Austrian Bernd Wiesberger, Thailand’s Kiradech Aphibarnrat and three-time winner Martin Kaymer came home in joint fourth.
