Lee Westwood lifts the Falcon Trophy at Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship - final round in pictures

Englishman shoots 67 on Day 4 to register his first victory in 14 months

Lee Westwood secured a two-shot victory on Sunday at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship presented by EGA to register his first victory in 14 months.

The Englishman, a former world No 1, held the overnight lead and never relinquished it, carding a final-round 67 to finish on 19-under par.

Compatriots Tommy Fleetwood – a two-time Abu Dhabi champion – and Matt Fitzpatrick were second, alongside Frenchman Victor Perez. Fleetwood and Perez both shot 63. South Africa's Louis Oosthuizen finished solo fifth, on 15-under.

Aged 46, Westwood’s win was his 25th on the European Tour and first since triumphing at the Nedbank Golf Challenge in November 2018. His previous victory had come more than four years before.

Placed together with the success in South Africa, the Abu Dhabi title is Westwood's second win in a Rolex Series event.

"I had a little slip at 16 but I hit some good shots coming in," Westwood said. "It's been a good week. I am just really happy the way I controlled myself.

"I wasn't paying attention to other people, I was just trying to control my emotions."

When asked about his prospects of making the 2020 European Ryder Cup team, Westwood said: "It's just nice proving I can still do it. It was good watching last time but if there is chance to get in the team I will obviously go for it."
