Kim's putter keeps her ahead of the chasing Nordqvist
DUBAI // Anna Nordqvist, the outstanding young Swedish talent who holds a major championship in her rookie year as a professional, produced a stunning round yesterday to chase down In Kyung Kim, the overnight leader of the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters. Kim, however, playing five groups behind the Swede, showed what a tremendous prospect she is by responding to the challenge and re-establishing her grip on the ?500,000 (Dh2.7m) tournament on the closing holes.
Three birdies on the last six holes enabled the Korean to carry a three-stroke lead into today's concluding round. Nevertheless, the third day glory undoubtedly went to Nordqvist. Equalling the women's course record of 65 by shooting seven birdies, Nordqvist, 22, had opportunities to go much lower and if her putter had been as hot as Kim's she would have claimed at least a share of the lead. A missed birdie putt from 4ft on the last summed up a day of mixed fortunes on the greens. But she proved when winning this year's LPGA championship in the US she is no shrinking violet and will fancy her chances of overhauling Kim.
