More than 120 golfers have signed up for next month’s Dubai Creek Open, which heralds the second half of the 2014 Mena Tour season.

Among the early entries are Jake Shepherd of England and Stephen Dodd of Wales, the winners of the developmental tour’s Order of Merit titles in 2011 and 2012 respectively, along with England’s Lee Corfield, Sandro Piaget of Monaco and Shafiq Masih of Pakistan, all former winners on the tour.

The event, to be held at the Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club, is the third Mena event of the 10-event calendar.

The Royal Golf D’Anafa Open and the Royal Golf Dar Es Salam Open were played in Morocco in March before the tour took a summer break.

England’s Joshua White, who won the Royal Golf D’Anfa Open, leads money list with US$9,490 (Dh34,850) in earnings, just ahead of France’s Edouard Espana, who won the Royal Golf Dar Es Salam Open.

Tour chairman Mohamed Juma Buamaim saw the early player registration as an endorsement of the tour. “We’re obviously very pleased with the overwhelming response to the Dubai Creek Open, which is not only a great advertisement for the club, but also for the tour as a whole,” he said.

“We appreciate all the hard work the club does in preparing the course, which is always in great condition, and we can expect some exciting golf ahead.”

Deadline for entries is August 31.

So far, players from 27 countries are in the field.
