Godolphin to compete with three of their best

Godolphin are launching a three-pronged assault on today's Richard Hambro Darley Stakes at Newmarket in England with Mastery, Vesuve and Al Zir all running.

Frankie Dettori has chosen to ride Vesuve after he beat Kings Gambit in the Doonside Cup at Ayr, with Ted Durcan on board Al Zir, the Epsom Derby also-ran, leaving Daragh O'Donohoe to ride Mastery, last year's St Leger hero.

Mastery has been sidelined by a series of niggling problems and has not raced since making a bold bid for the Dubai World Cup when he finished less than two lengths behind Gloria de Campeao, the big race winner.

However, he could find life tough over just nine furlongs on his first outing for 202 days. "Mastery had a tiny problem and we have taken our time with him. He has been working nicely recently and is ready to race," Saeed bin Suroor, the Godolphin trainer, said.

"He is a Group One winner and has the class to run well in a Group Three contest but it will be his first start for more than six months and he will improve for the outing. Vesuve is a tough horse who always tries his hardest in his races. He is sound and healthy at the moment and I am looking to see him run well.

"Al Zir came back well from his run at Doncaster and he has improved since then. Nine furlongs will suit him well and I am hoping that he can run a nice race on his return to Group company."
