Froch and Abraham to battle for belt

Carl Froch and Arthur Abraham will be fighting for the vacant WBC super-middleweight title when they meet in Helsinki on November 27.

Carl Froch and Arthur Abraham will be fighting for the vacant WBC super-middleweight title when they meet in Helsinki on November 27.

The Englishman Froch lost the belt in defeat to Denmark's Mikkel Kessler but after the Scandinavian suffered an eye injury, the title became vacant with Kessler securing the right to fight the new champion.

The WBC title had set to be contested by American duo Andre Ward - already the WBA champion - and Andre Dirrell when they meet on the same night as Froch and the Armenian-German Abraham - but following an appeal from Abraham's management company Team Sauerland it will now be the European fighters who contest it.

Chris Meyer, the general manager of Team Sauerland, said: "We welcome the WBC´s decision. We are very happy for King Arthur. On November 27, he will finally be world champion again."

The bouts between Froch and Abraham and Ward and Dirrell serve as the semi-finals of the Super Six World Boxing Classic.
