Where's Yaya Toure going? Ex-Man City player at the centre of transfer mystery

It's quickly turned into football's great mystery - where is Yaya Toure going?

The Ivorian was released by Manchester City in the summer and is available on a free transfer.

That sounds like standard fare. Then enter his agent, Dimitry Seluk, who has been stirring up all sorts of conspiracy theories with a selection of tweets.

First, he announced Yaya has passed a medical in London, which would suggest he's joining a London club - though it doesn't mean it's guaranteed.

There's been speculation throughout the summer that West Ham United were interested, especially as Toure played under new manager Manuel Pellegrini when he was in charge at Manchester City.

However, Seluk was back on Twitter to pour a big bucket of cold water on that one, tweeting that "It's not West Ham, 100%. Yaya is a champion. The last place is not for him." West Ham are currently bottom of the league with no points from three matches.

The next club to be dismissed from the equation by Seluk was Crystal Palace, as he made a joke about manager Roy Hodgson's lack of interest in when his players' birthday's are - in reference to Toure's birthday cake episode from a few years ago.

That left Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Fulham in the mix, while football humour dictated that many fans were quick to point out lower league clubs such as Leyton Orient and Dagenham & Redbridge were not totally out of the running.

Meanwhile, Seluk decided to highlight the clubs in London that his client could join.

Seluk finished it off by tweeting that Toure is now a British citizen, amid reports that he was set to sign for Greek club Olympiakos.

Toure spent the 2005/06 season at Olympiakos before joining Monaco. After a season in France he signed for Barcelona before an illustrious eight-year spell at Manchester City where he scored 59 Premier League goals in 230 appearances and won the league title on three occasions.

The way transfer deals are announced and publicly handled is becoming more diverse. An increasing number of clubs are using comedy-style videos on their social media accounts to unveil players.

This week has seen both Borussia Dortmund and Marseille roll out short film with an air of mystery to unveil Paco Alcacer and Kevin Strootman.
